We have appointed Dame Gillian Guy as our first consumer advocacy Non-Executive Director, reinforcing our commitment to putting energy users at the heart of decision-making. This newly created role strengthens consumer representation at board level and will help to ensure that strategic decisions reflect the impact on bill payers.
Dame Gillian brings more than 30 years’ experience in public service and local government, including as Chief Executive of Citizens Advice and the London Borough of Ealing.
With a strong track record of championing public interest, she will help make sure Smart DCC delivers value for money and keeps the needs of energy users front and centre.

The appointment comes as we prepare to transition to a not-for-profit model. In addition to representing consumer interests, Dame Gillian will contribute to shaping our future direction and performance. As with all Independent Directors, the role includes supporting and challenging our Board, Chief Executive, and Executive Committee, while upholding high standards of governance.
Chair of Smart DCC, Richard McCarthy, said:
"I am delighted to welcome Dame Gillian to the board. She will be a powerful advocate for energy consumers, and her leadership at Citizens Advice and in local government will bring invaluable insight that will help shape more responsive, inclusive, and effective decision-making.
"This will be vital as we embed the consumer perspective more deeply into our governance and prepare for the next phase of Smart DCC’s journey."
Dame Gillian Guy DBE, said:
“I am honoured to join the Smart DCC board at such a pivotal moment in its journey.
I am looking forward to contributing to the organisation’s strategic direction by championing consumer interests and helping ensure Smart DCC delivers long-term value for bill payers across the country.”
