Second generation smart meters reach half a million

There are now half a million second generation smart meters (SMETS2) connected to the Data Communications Company’s secure data network.

The landmark was reached on Friday 8 March at 10.10am when E.on installed a new meter at a property in Pitstone, near Leighton Buzzard.

Significant progress has been made on the SMETS2 roll-out, with more than 7,000 installations each day, the equivalent of over 13 per minute. This is a significant increase from just 1,000 installed nation-wide in June 2018, and the pace of installation continues to ramp up in 2019.
