Wow, what a year it’s shaping up to be at DCC!
Last week, we celebrated reaching 10 million smart meters on our network. This is a fantastic achievement, especially given the pace and rate of connections that still managed to continue despite the coronavirus pandemic rearing its head. I can clearly remember our first celebration of 1,000 SMETS2 meters just a few years ago, when that felt like a magical number. It’s heartening to think how many more consumers have been positively impacted by the smart revolution since, and are now better equipped to live smarter, greener lives.
Not only did we hit this landmark number in healthy shape as a business, operating in a highly secure and digital way; I’m also incredibly proud of all our people who keep building a great culture here at the DCC.
This year we’ve seen another encouraging jump in our employee engagement: our NPS scores have risen steadily from -9 a few years ago up to +17 in our most recent results at the start of this year. This reinforces really positive indications from our people that we’re making progress on the right things.
In the last year, our people have told us that they’re proud to work here; they understand our vision and purpose, and what their role contributes; they’re comfortable being themselves at work; and they believe DCC values diversity in the workplace. These all scored 90% or more, in surveys of 460 people.
Of course, there’s lots still to do, and this year we want to focus further on learning and development opportunities for our people, as well as continuing to improve how we support diversity and inclusion.
At the end of January, we had the honour of being shortlisted for our Employee Engagement Strategy at the HR Excellence Awards. We sadly didn’t win this time, but it was great to have the recognition of our progress and it was a fitting testament to the great work of our employee forum members, leaders, engagement teams and the People Team over the last year.
Thank you to everyone at DCC, past and present, and the teams that keep working to engage our people and make this a great place to work.
Onwards and upwards into 2021!
