Further information for new Users

Depending on your User role you might be asked to:

  • submit forecasts
  • pay for DCC services and/or equipment
  • order, test and install smart metering equipment.

We may ask you to submit forecasts and orders for smart metering equipment you intend to buy, install and operate.

We require forecasts:

  • for financial purposes to accurately set future charging levels
  • for capacity planning purposes to make sure the network is resilient to the expected volumes of traffic
  • to forecast and order communications hubs from service providers.

The Smart Energy Code provides the rules for how we calculate charges and apply them. We publish charging statements and indicative budgets to show how we apply these rules. We also provide an easy to use working model for calculating user charges.

You can find the latest versions of these documents in our charges section.

Smart metering equipment

As a new User, you must choose your own supplier for connected devices, meters, in-home displays etc. as long as they are on the certified product list. We will provide testing services for these devices.

We deliver the communications hubs for the Smart Metering Wide Area Network (SMWAN) in accordance with the order you submit.
